Members and Subscribers

CSWT is a community of Cherokees, registered and unregistered, family and friends, dedicated to Cherokee history, culture, heritage, tradition and fellowship.  It is made up of members and subscribers who reside outside the historic boundaries of the Cherokee Nation and Bands.  They have come together on the basis of a shared history and heritage.  They share an interest in the continuation of and a love for the Cherokee people, Nation, Bands, Towns and Communities.

The CSWT community is based on democratic principles, full and active participation in activities by all members and subscribers, individual respect and inclusiveness.  We respect and seek among our community members and subscribers a wide variety of opinions, an array of life experiences and various types and degrees of Cherokee affiliation and interest in Cherokee matters.  We can learn much from each other as well as from people outside our community.

Approval of membership and subscription applications is at the discretion of the CSWT Council and may not be appealed.  The CSWT maintains a minimum of sixty percent (60%) of its total membership base as registered Cherokee Nation citizens.  Membership in CSWT does not constitute, and is separate from, citizenship in the Cherokee Nation.

Applicants who are Cherokee Nation citizens may be granted membership upon payment of dues, completion of the application form and action by the CSWT Council. 

Applicants who are not Cherokee Nation citizens may initially be granted subscriber status upon payment of dues, completion of the application form and action by the CSWT Council.  They may later become members, on action by the CSWT Council, as percentages permit in order to maintain no less than sixty percent (60%) of total membership as Cherokee Nation citizens.  They will be considered for transfer from subscriber to member status in the chronological order of their joining CSWT as subscribers. 

Annual dues are $25.00 per household for members or subscribers.  This includes all adults over the age of 18 years living at the same address.  Members and subscribers participate fully and equally in all CSWT activities, including receipt of the monthly newsletter.  The only difference between members and subscribers is that only members can participate in CSWT elections and can hold CSWT offices. 

Membership and subscriber dues of $25.00 are payable each July.  If joining in another month, an initial pro-rated schedule for the payment of dues until the following July is given below.:

A Member/Subscriber Application Form can be downloaded by clicking on the document below. Print it out and mail it, along with a check or money order made out to Cherokee SouthWest Township or CSWT.  Do not mail cash.
